BUZZ 1: The merging of the UAAP and NCAA tournaments into one super-league will not push through this season because Mapúa cannot put up the funds needed.

TNB SAYS: It is definitely a big NO. Though the UAAP-NCAA fuse was approved by incoming NCAA chairman, Dr. Reynaldo B. Vea, the proposed merger was eventually turned down by the UAAP board. The merge would have had a combined schedule of ballgames, a new round-robin system for all 16 schools, and a new criterion for individual awards (MVP, ROY and Mythical Team) done in just three months time, which the Board deemed grossly insufficient.

BUZZ 2: With Level 3 accreditation granted to six engineering programs (IE, EE, ECE, CoE, CE and EnSE), a 70% passing mark for all courses will be implemented this fourth term to enhance the students’ skills.

TNB SAYS: The 70% cut-off will take place 1st term of S.Y 2008-2009. As of this writing, the SLHS, the Departments of Mathematics and Physics have already started implementing the new grading system in selected courses. As for the other professional subjects, their respective deans hold the decision of raising the passing rate.

BUZZ 3: The SLHS-Department of Psychology will create a one unit course for Student Stresses in school year 2008-2009.

TNB SAYS: It is partly true. The proposal for the course will cover four different course codes: Human Development 1 (College Adjustment), Human Development 2 (Socialization), and Human Development 3 & 4 (Personality Development 1 & 2). Through this, the psychology department hopes to help students cope better with the stresses of college life. As of press time, the said proposal is still under careful study.
